KARHU - KING OF THE FOREST
The bear, the king of the forest, has many names, such as mesikämmen, otso, kontio, and nalle, in Finnish language. The name of this admired and respected animal was not to be spoken aloud. The bear symbolizes strength, endurance, and a deep connection to Finnish nature, while also embodying a motherly instinct to protect. Its habit of hibernating is associated with the ability to pause, reflect on what has happened, learn from the past, and renew oneself.
In the Kalevala, the bear plays a major role and is mentioned more often than any other animal. The poems tell of the bear’s celestial origin, vengeance, and hunting rituals, but also of respect for nature.

Carbon neutral production: The study was performed in accordance with the main principles of ISO 14040 and ISO 14044.
All waste flows of the production phase are re-used. The wood for the material comes from the certified forests in Finland. We use EKOenergy and electricity from own solar panels. Heating of the factory is performed using waste heat flows and carbon neutral electricity.
Each item ages beautifully yet keeping its qualities.You can check how fresh the product is from its wooden scent – the stronger the scent, the newer the product!
At the end of their long-life span, the products can be recycled, incinerated for heat energy, or returned to the manufacturer for re-use.
Wide operating temperature range from -30 °C up to +100 °C: Kupilka-products withstand everything from freezing weather to storms and boiling hot tea.
Durability: Did the Kupilka drop to the ground or the backpack clattered a little by accident - no worries! Durability is needed especially among the professionals as the Kupilkas are the rule rather than the exception with the bushcraft guides and safari entrepreneurs of Lapland.
Long lasting: The first Kupilkas were manufactured in 2003. We know many people who are still using the same products they got 20 years ago as the Kupilkas are made to last.
