Start by preparing the kindling. Use the striker that came with the Firesteel to scratch the surface of the birch bark to achieve fine kindling. Place the sharp edge of striker in 40° angle to the top of ferro rod. Scratch lightly the surface of the rod towards the birch bark. The sparks created with the Firesteel will light the kindling easily and quickly.
